ACCORDING TO THE UNION COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORT, OTTIS MCRAE, 64, OF 276 HAYES CITY LOOP ROAD, NORPHLET, WAS DRIVING WEST ON PADGETT STREET IN NORPHLET AROUND 10:30 P.M. SATURDAY WHEN HIS YELLOW AND BLACK FORD TRUCK VEERED NORTHWARD OFF THE ROADWAY ABOUT 48 FEET, STRIKING THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF A HOME AT 100 TEXAS ST., BEFORE COMING TO REST IN THE BACK YARD.
WHEN DEPUTY JUSTIN MURPHREE ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, HE FOUND THE VEHICLE’S DOORS WERE LOCKED AND THE DRIVER STILL SEAT-BELTED INSIDE, UNRESPONSIVE.

PROMED AMBULANCE TRANSPORTED MCRAE TO THE MEDICAL CENTER OF SOUTH ARKANSAS, WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT 11:08 P.M.
AN INVESTIGATION BY CORONER CURTIS BUTTERFIELD DETERMINED THAT MCRAE DIED OF AN APPARENT HEART ATTACK WHILE DRIVING. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH LEFT THE ROADWAY AND COLLIDED WITH THE RESIDENCE. NO ONE INSIDE THE HOME WAS HURT AND THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS INJURIES ON THE DRIVER.
